Popular steak restaurant group Flat Iron is set to open its highly anticipated Newcastle restaurant later this month, marking the occasion with a giveaway of 300 free Wagyu steaks for local diners.

The new restaurant, located on Grey Street in Newcastle city centre, will officially open its doors on Friday, May 22, but eager steak lovers can get an early taste during a special preview event on Thursday, May 21.

From 5pm on May 21, Flat Iron will hand out 300 complimentary Wagyu steaks on a first-come, first-served basis, giving guests the chance to experience the restaurant ahead of launch day.

Flat Iron Brings Affordable Premium Steak to Newcastle.

Known for its focus on quality steak at accessible prices, Flat Iron’s Newcastle venue will centre its menu around the brand’s signature Flat Iron steak. Cut from the featherblade, the steak is celebrated for its tenderness, flavour and juiciness when expertly butchered and prepared.

The restaurant will also feature a rotating selection of blackboard specials, including Wagyu dishes and burgers made using beef sourced from Flat Iron’s own herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Guests can also expect a range of popular sides, including:

Beef dripping chips
Creamed spinach
Truffled macaroni cheese
Crispy bone marrow garlic mash

Alongside the food offering, the drinks menu will showcase a curated wine list, cocktails, house fizzes and draught beers. Highlights include Flat Iron’s own Malbec, blended using grapes from the Limoux region in southern France, as well as a special pale ale called Lush from Newcastle favourite Wylam Brewery.

Inside Flat Iron Newcastle on Grey Street.

The new Newcastle restaurant is housed within a Grade II-listed 19th-century building on Grey Street, one of the city’s most iconic locations.

Designed to preserve the character of the historic property, the interiors feature exposed brickwork, reclaimed quarry tiles, oak panelling and a marble-topped bar. Vintage furniture and lighting have been incorporated throughout, while reclaimed glazed pine concertina doors add further charm.

The venue will seat 95 guests indoors, with an additional 12 seats outside surrounded by planting, a signature design feature of Flat Iron restaurants.
